Drain soak water and rinse beans well and drain. To drained beans, add 6 cups water.
Then add one cup onion seasoning blend and 2 cups diced ham.
Simmer for 1 1/2 - 2 hours or until beans are tender. Serve with cornbread!!

1 lb. dried Great Northern beans (soaked overnight)
6 cups water
1 cup frozen onion seasoning blend
2 cups diced ham
Soak beans overnight according to package directions. Drain soak water, rinse beans well and drain. To drained beans, add 6 cups water, 1 cup frozen onion seasoning blend, and 2 cups diced ham. Simmer for 1 1/2-2 hours or until beans are tender.
This looks like a wonderful, comforting and frugal meal! I'm thinking it would be great using the leftover Christmas ham! I'm not familiar with the onion seasoning blend, though. I'll have to look for something to substitute.
ReplyDeleteAlison- It's in the frozen vegetable section. It's frozen diced onions with added celery, red pepper and I think parsley. It's great for spaghetti sauce, chili, soups, or any other recipe that calls for onion. Needless to say, I don't like chopping onions!!
